Redick observed, "You're in the league long enough you have this big circle, and it's people you like, people you love and then it's your brothers, and Chris is in that inner, inner circle of brothers."

Amid the chaos, the Lakers led a donation drive outside their arena, rallying support for those affected by the fires. This initiative was further strengthened by the collaborative efforts of 11 other local sports teams, committing over $8 million to assist the fire victims. The gesture by Wembanyama and Paul, described by Redick, exemplified this spirit. Redick shared, "He called me this afternoon and said, 'Vic and I are gonna go -- whether you win or we win -- we're gonna go over and give your boys jerseys. He's well aware they're huge NBA fans."

Despite the ongoing challenges, there are glimmers of hope. Efforts to tame the fires have made some progress, with the Palisades fire reaching 17% containment and the Eaton fire at 35%. These small victories provide some solace to a region fraught with loss and uncertainty.
